Media teachers - or more correctly teachers of other subjects who wanted to become media teachers - know a fair amount about 'curriculum development', the process of devising and implementing new courses of study and new forms of certification.
After nearly three years of debate, consultation, controversy and scrutiny, the 2003 Communications Act has finally emerged from the darkness. It represents the most sweeping changes in the British broadcasting and telecommunications landscape at least since 1990, and probably since the emergence of commercial television in the 1950s.
Media Studies really took off (as far as schools and FE colleges are concerned) in the early 1980s with the introduction of the Post-16 Action Plan to provide vocational courses for students for whom Highers (the post-16 academic qualification) was not felt to be appropriate.
